a gathering place

a gathering space

Welcome to my official “first” post for my studio blog - a gathering place. Today, I wake up at 4 am and just can not go back to sleep…I know, a very common thing to happen for many of us. However, for me I could not stop thinking about playing music. What are some songs I want to play, how can I make time to play more music, how can I inspire my students and keep them motivated to play music…gosh, the thoughts would not stop! I decided to get up and get my coffee and respond to emails from students and friends. After several thoughtful messages, I began to think about the world we are in right now and how so much of what we do and say relies on our electronics…whether it is a text or email or a BLOG….communications and relationships have changed. Not many folks use the telephone anymore, much less sit in person and talk, sad. So,  I’m going to use this platform to share how important I believe it is to create “a gathering space” for whatever it is that is your passion. For myself, I need a gathering space for music.  I love playing music with others, singing, smiling, laughing and sometimes crying when I am in my music world.

I have a beautiful little studio in downtown Durango, Colorado and I teach Monday through Thursday - Friday is grandma day or whatever day I want to make it! I have a comfy couch and chair, refrigerator, french press, electric tea kettle, my Alexa, a television, my computer, fast internet, musical instruments to share/sell to folks and my location is in a building full of creative people. I chat with students of all ages from 5 - 90 year old about music and life. In my own mind, I have the perfect space…a gathering place. So join me to make music together.
