The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College announces its new season of pop up performances for the Concert Hall presents "Pop-Up Music Series". The Smoking Jackets featuring Daniel Ward, Heidi Swedberg and Craig McClelland will kick off an intimate, fun, jazzy evening of tunes on Friday, September 29, 7:30 pm at Jimmy’s Music & Supply located at 1239 Main Avenue in beautiful downtown Durango.

The Smoking Jackets are virtuoso multi-instrumentalists who also happen to be passionate ukulele instructors. They bring their brilliant bon vivance together for some serious music and comedy. Daniel Ward and Heidi Swedberg are joined by long-time collaborator Craig McClelland for twisted takes on jazz, flamenco, classical and pop standards. It’s like a Pink Martini shaken by Victor Borge and served to Dean Martin … up with a twist!

Daniel Ward is an accomplished musician, composer and educator, who has become one of the country's top clinicians and performers on the ‘ukulele circuit’. He is known for his command of Latin styles and teaches right hand techniques, adapting his style and knowledge from the classical and flamenco guitar. He has been a featured performer and workshop instructor at ukulele festivals across the country. As a guitarist, Daniel has toured the world playing flamenco guitar with Ottmar Liebert, and Luna Negra, as well as performing with the flamenco dance ensembles of Maria Benitez, Dance Espana, and Yjastros. Daniel has scored music for film, television and video.

Heidi Swedberg is an American actress and has had guest roles in a number of television series, including Seinfeld, Matlock, Thirtysomething, Quantum Leap, Brooklyn Bridge, Northern Exposure, Sisters, Roc, and Touched by an Angel, just to name a few. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she grew up playing the ukulele. In 1992, when playing a singer/songwriter for a television pilot, she began playing the instrument again. She teaches at festivals and performs with her band at events around the country.

Craig McClelland is a professional musician (bass, guitar, ukulele, and tuba) and instructor with over 30 years experience, He has performed and teaches at distinctive festivals music festivals including The West Coast Ukulele Retreat, Santa Fe New Uke-Culinary Fiesta, and the Rocky Mountain UkeFest among others. Craig frequently delves into the world of theatre providing acting and instrumental skills to many theatre companies including Peninsula Players Theatre and Northern Sky Theater.
